The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American ExpressYesterday I wrote again about the Starwood Amex Offer where you can receive a $60 statement credit with a $300 or more transaction at a Starwood hotel. This is an amazing offer to save money at ANY Starwood hotel within the US (including US Territories). The best thing about this offer is that all properties under the Starwood umbrella are eligible, including Westin, W Hotels, Sheraton, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Le Meridien, element, aloft, Four Points, etc. This offer expires January 31, 2018. That means the charge must hit your credit card by that date. If you have a stay where you check out on January 31st, but it doesn’t hit your statement until February 1st, it will not trigger the statement credit.

Now, if you have an upcoming stay at a Starwood hotel, here are some ways to maximize the offer:

Free Night Stay with Points

If you are planning on using points for your stay, but still want to receive the statement credit, you can still do this! The $300 minimum does not need to include your room cost. If your room is stay, but you are staying at a property where you can bill incidentals to your room, i.e., restaurants, tickets, drinks, gift shop, etc. that will count towards the $300. Your total bill just needs to be $300 or more to trigger the statement credit. For example, let’s say you are staying at The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa in Avon which is a great ski resort in Beaver Creek. I assume they sell lift tickets for nearby mountains, so you can purchase a lift ticket at the hotel and charge the purchase to your room bill. A few days of skiing and you’ll definitely hit the $300 minimum! I assume they sell lift tickets and can be billed to your room, but have not actually tried it at this hotel. And another example: The Sheraton Kauai Resort has a great luau at their property where you can purchase tickets to the luau and charge it right to your room! Or if there is a resort that charges resort fees, those fees can be added up and are on your hotel bill.

Have a Really Expensive Stay?

If you have a really expensive Starwood stay coming up, whether it be the room rate or all the extra charges you will put on the room, you’ll want to take advantage of the Amex Offer as many times as possible on your single stay! Make sure to register for the offer on every single American Express credit card you have that was targeted for the offer. Initially, this was an extremely limited offer, but they recently rolled it out to more accounts and it seems like most accounts should see it in their account.

Prior to registering any card you have, make sure to read this multi-browser trick blog post to make sure you properly save the offer on every single card you have. If you save the offer first without knowing the trick, the offer will disappear on all your other cards and will not allow you to register!

So if you have an expensive stay, make sure to split your bill amongst multiple cards at check-out. So let’s say your bill ends up being $1,000. Put $300 on Amex card 1, $300 on Amex card 2, and the rest on Amex card 3. Just do increments of $300 on all of your Amex cards and you’ll receive the $60 statement credit on every single card you use!

This is a pretty awesome offer and really makes having American Express credit cards worthwhile – especially the no annual fee cards! My husband and I will receive $240 back in statement credits on stays we would have anyways! To me, this is free money back in my pocket!

  1. FYI – Just like the Hilton offer (Spend $250 to get $50) recently awarded by Amex, I think you may complete this offer with multiple purchases so long as you hit the $300+ mark, e.g. if you have two hotel stays for $270 and $350, you may split the second stay into $30/$320 to complete the offer twice.

  2. The offer says U. S . only. You mentioned the Westin Cayman islands. We are going and was wondering about this. Can you verify if this will work.

  3. This is a bummer. Eight AMEXes in my household, including four SPG cards, and zero offers. And the kicker is– this is an offer that would have actually changed our behavior; we would have stayed at an SPG hotel on an upcoming weekend trip had we had so much as a single offer… but we got goose eggs. Boo AMEX.
