Purchase IHG Points with a 100% Bonus!

InterContinental Hotels Group is offering a 100% bonus for those looking to purchase points. With this bonus you must purchase at least 5,000 points and the maximum you can purchase per calendar year is 60,000 points per account. This promotion goes through November 3, 2017. This is actually a pretty common promotion with IHG and definitely worthwhile if you have an upcoming stay at any of the properties under the IHG umbrella.

Let’s assume you are planning to purchase the maximum of 60,000 points where every 1,000 points costs $11.50. With the bonus offer you will essentially be purchasing points at .575 cents per point. This is actually a great value to purchase points, and much better then the .7 cents per point roundabout method.

Example of where this is a good deal

Assuming you have the 100% bonus offer, you can purchase 120,000 points for $690. This will get you 4 free nights at the Holiday Inn Resort in Aruba (right on the beach!). This property is 30,000 points a night – which means you can ultimately stay at this hotel for $172.50 a night even during peak times, assuming available.

Also, IHG also offers Point Break hotels where there is an entire list of hotels that only cost 5,000 points a night! It is a great opportunity to stay for cheap if there is a hotel on the list that you are looking to stay at. If you purchase enough points to get the 100% bonus, you’ll essentially be able to redeem for a Point Break hotel for $28.75/night, and that includes taxes!

However, like all point offers, I do not suggest purchasing speculatively. Programs can devalue and you do not want to be stuck with points that you ultimately do not need. You can purchase points here.

  1. What’s the best credit card to use to purchase the points. Will buying with the chase ihg cc get me any better points than just regular spend at 1 point /dollar? If so i’ll just use my amex spg cards for 1 starpoint/ $ and starpoints are way more valuable and convertable. Suggestions?
