The Chase Freedom credit card comes with rotating quarterly bonus categories where you can earn 5x points on your purchase (up to $1,500 per quarter) instead of the regular 1x point per dollar spent. You can now start taking advantage of Chase’s 2018 Q1 rotating categories for this card. a screenshot of a calendar

January, February, and March 2018:

For this quarter, which includes January, February, and March, you can earn 5% cash back on the following:

  • Gas Stations
  • Internet, Cell, and Phone Services
  • Chase Pay, Android Pay, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay

And if you have a full earning Chase Ultimate Reward card, instead of cashing the points out for cash back, you can instead transfer them to another Chase account and earn the 5x points which can definitely get you more value when transferring them to hotel and airline partners.

Since purchases using Chase Pay, Andorid Pay, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay trigger the 5% cash back, it should be incredibly easy to fully maximize your $1,500 spend cash back! All you have to do is pay with the respective mobile app at participating stores, or while shopping online. While every merchant does not accept these type of pay options, you’ll probably be surprised with how many that do.

Or, if you do not want to be involved in one of those payment methods, you can change your Internet, Cell Phone, and Home Phone service bills to charge your Chase Freedom card instead of the card that is currently being billed. If your combined bills are less then $1,500 for the three months, you can also pre-pay your cell phone bill, for instance, and it will just give you a credit on your bill for the coming months. This option is only good though if you are not currently using a credit card that earns 5x points.

And getting the bonus points on gas is great as well! Just remember though, if you use one of the pay methods to pay gas, that will not get you 10% cash back, it will still be capped at the 5% cash back.

Enjoy your 7,500 points for the next three months! Remember, you must always activate your 5x point bonus by March 14, 2018.

I have an offer that I received in the mail for up to 120,000 points (10 points per dollar on any category – hotel, restaturant, gas, etc.) unit 120,000 points are reached and then it goes to the regular categories that Mariott currently has. I have a question as to which offer do you prefer. The current offer from Chase for 75-80,000 points after spending only 3,000 points or the offer that I mentioned where I would spend approximately $12,000 but get 120,000 points for Mariott.
