A few days ago Sam’s Wholesale Club unexpectedly closed around 60 stores overnight. There was absolutely no notice given and I feel horrible for the employees impacted. I am sure this doesn’t help people’s opinion who already have the “down with Walmart” mindset. While I am not a pro Walmart person, I do have a soft spot in my heart for them. When I worked in the corporate consulting world, Walmart was my client for 25 months, which meant I spent every single week living in Bentonville. It is actually what got me into this points and miles hobby! I got to know the area well and many of their corporate employees. I was also able to see a different side of Walmart.

While I do not shop at Sam’s Club often (or pretty much ever), I do have a Sam’s Club membership due to some of the awesome Amex Offers they’ve had over the past year. Although now that they closed the only Sam’s Club in all of Massachusetts, I’ll probably never shop there again (in-store that is). While there is no list of the Sam’s Club that have closed, the current locations is up to date so if you do not see your go to location, unfortunately it was closed. HT: Mommy Points

Now, if you currently have a Sam’s Club membership, they are extending two different offers. I am assuming many readers currently have a membership due to the many free membership opportunities with Amex Offers! The two offers include:

  • 3 free months of membership
  • Reimbursement of your membership fee

I personally will be opting for the reimbursement of my membership fee, which I am happy about since I do not shop there anyways.

Even though your nearby Sam’s Club, you can still shop online to take advantage of a decent Sam’s Club Amex Offer that I wrote about last month. With this offer, you can receive a $15 statement credit when you spend $30 or more on your registered Amex credit card online. This can ultimately give you free money since Sam’s Club sells MasterCard Gift Cards. While you will have to pay a small transaction fee for the purchase, you’ll still come out again. If you do not have a Sam’s Club membership, if you have a California, South Carolina, or Elmsford, NY address you do not need to pay the 10% service fee.

Sams club closes and makes the employees life hell. They closed the Warwick RI store for a year to rebuild it then after a year they closed it down forever along with the Seekonk MA store. All the employees just lost their jobs after Christmas, like these 63 store employees have. BJ”s wholesale club overs a better assortment and prices than Sam’s club does. We are just waiting for Costco to come into the area. Walmart bought out Pace Warehouse and killed it for the emloyees
