Marriott has always done a great job giving out free nights in the US to their platinum and gold members throughout the year during through the usage of their Elite BOGO (Buy One Get One) certificates. For those of you who are unaware of these certificates, they are good for 1 free weekend night (Fri, Sat, Sun) with a paid stay at any Marriott, JW Marriott, and Renaissance. These are good for any publicly listed rate (not good for AAA, corporate rates, Marriott Rewards rates). Resorts and other hotels listed below are excluded as well.
The new certificates online are good for March 11, 2011 to June 5, 2011. I have used these MANY of times and they have been amazing. Also, you are able to “gift” the certificate to friends/family, so if you are not platinum or gold ask a friend in this elite group to email you the certificate. The certificates do not have individual numbers on them, so can be used many times throughout the promotional period. These certificates typically come out three times a year.
To use the certificate, just call the Platinum elite line 1-800-228-9290 and have them note that you are using the buy one get one certificate. Ensure you speak to a Platinum elite representative as typically they are they only ones that know of these certificates. There is no special rate code associated with this certificate. When you check into the hotel, give the front desk the printed out certificate to apply to your stay. Many times the person working at the front desk is not aware of the certificate so you might have to explain the certificate for them and show them the terms and conditions. When you check out make sure to look at the bill. About 50% of the time I need to go back to the front desk to have them adjust the rate. Ensure to print out two copies of the certificate if you need to re-show them the certificate to explain how it works. Ultimately I have never had an issue, but just takes some extra explanation.
