From June 1 through August 31, 2011, you can earn quadruple airline miles (with participating airlines) for stays at Marriott Hotels starting with your second stay. You must change your earning preference to miles to receive the promotion – NOTE: This is instead of receiving Marriott Reward points. You can register for both the miles and points megabonus, but can only earn towards one of the promotions for each stay. For example, if your Megabonus point promotion was to receive a free nigth after two stays (starting with the 2nd stay), you can earn your free night with earning points then change your earning preference to miles to then start redeeming 4x your miles.
Participating airlines include:
- Aeroplan (Air Canada)
- British Airways
- Cathay Pacific Airways
- Delta Air Lines
- Frontier Airlines
- Hawaiian Airlines
- JetBlue Airways
- Jet Airways JetPrivilege®
- LifeMiles (Avianca-TACA)
- Southwest Airlines
- United Airlines
- US Airways
For almost all the airlines listed, you will receive 8 miles/$1 spent at JW Marriott®, Autograph Collection®, Renaissance® Hotels, Marriott® Hotels & Resorts, and Marriott Vacation Club®,The Ritz-Carlton®,EDITIONSM;; and 4 miles/$1 spent at Courtyard by Marriott®, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott®, SpringHill Suites by Marriott®, Residence Inn by Marriott®, TownePlace Suites by Marriott®, Marriott Executive Apartments®.
The exceptions include: 1) JetBlue Airways you will receive 4 miles/$1 spent at all hotels; 2) Southwest you will receive 2,400 Rapid Reward points/stay
You will only be able to register for the promotion once you change your earning preferences to miles. To do this: 1) Click on My Account –> Profile. 2) At the bottom of the page in the section called “Earning Preference”, click the Edit earning preferences link. 3) You will then need to select the Miles/other program radio button, select the airline you wish to earn miles with and enter the corresponding frequent flyer number.
Personally, I still think earning the Marriott Rewards points with the Megabonus promotion is better; however, I know there are people out there that prefer earning miles when staying at hotels. The only times I prefer the miles is when they have the 5,000 bonus promotions per stay (like they did last year with Delta).
