Earn up to 2,500 American Airline Miles when Redeeming Miles

This post may contain affiliate links from our advertising partners, such as American Express. Read my Advertiser Disclosure policy here. Additionally, some of the offers on this page may no longer be available through Deals We Like.

Citi/AAdvantage credit card members can earn 10% miles back when redeeming AAdvantage miles through November 1, 2011. The bonus miles is maxed at 2,500 miles which is not too much, but still better than nothing. There is no registration needed for this promotion and the T&C state that bonus miles will post 6-8 weeks after the promotion end date.  The one good thing is that since this is not a discount when redeeming miles, but instead a bonus back, these 2,500 miles should count towards lifetime status as long as they post in time by December 1. Since the promotion ends 1 month prior to the lifetime mileage program change for American, hopefully the miles will take less than 4 weeks to post. In my experience, American is usually very quick with posting miles, so I have high hopes.

UPDATE: I called American and they informed me that the promotion started August 20, 2011. The representative also thought this was targeted, but she did not seem confident in this. To see if you qualify, I would recommend calling American Airline customer service and inquiring.

Similar to the BankDirect Checking earning potential, I will continue to post new ways to earn miles to count towards lifetime status prior to the rules changing. And as always, if you have any tips, feel free to let others know in the comments section.

    • @Colleen – I received the mailing last week and the first thing I noticed was that there was no start date anywhere mentioned. First thing on my list tomorrow is to find out more as I redeemed miles about a month ago and am wondering if I will receive the credit miles back as well.

    • @Kerry – there is no link for this promotion. Citi AAdvantage members should have received a promotional offer in the mail. No registration needed either.

  1. I used my miles to redeem a award ticket like a month ago. I have citicard/aadvantage credit card and I’m from Argentina. I am participating for this offer then?

    • @CarlosU – I actually have the same question as you. Let me do some research and get back to you! It does not state that it is limited to a specific region, but you never know. Will get back to you.

  2. Hi, I just redeemed miles for 4 tickets last month and am also interested to see if I can get the credit. I would appreciate you posting here if you find out if we can get the credit retroactively. Thanks!

    • @Jim – there is no link for this. I received a mailing for this. I just spoke to American Airlines customer service and they do not seem to really know of this promotion. They did state that only award tickets book starting on August 20th will qualify. The women seemed to believe it was targeted, but I am not sure about that. My husband received the same mailing and I asked if they could check his account to see if he was targeted, and she said she did not see it on his account. Looks like it is worth a call to American to ask if you qualify. Might result in a few calls as well.

  3. I’m wondering whether the promotion applies to the quarterly reduced mileage awards Citi/AA post. If you can get one of these flights, 17.5K is a pretty good deal, but even better if you’re getting 1750 miles back.

    • @Lee – in the mailing there does not seem to state any exclusions. My assumption is this would qualify as it is an award redemption.

    • @ORD_TGU – You must have a Citi/AAdvantage credit card to have received this offer. Additionally, it still MIGHT be targeted from there as well. You do not have to use your credit card to pay fees/taxes. There is no registration, just automatically credited to your account once the promotion is over. To see if you qualify, I would call AA and ask if you are registered in the system.
