Southwest Airlines is currently having a limited time only (ends October 20) sale for travel between November 30-December 14 and January 4-February 15.
The price of the fare is tied to the actual miles of the trip, so:
- 0 – 450 miles = $35
- 451 – 1,000 miles = $65
- 1,000 – 1,500 miles = $95
- 1,501 + = $125
They run these types of sales I’d say three to four times a year. Last time I was able to get a flight from NYC to New Orleans for $80 each way, which is an unbelievable price! Tickets are limited, so I would suggest purchasing fast. The great thing about Southwest is that if you have to change your reservation, you get the full amount back in a credit, which can be used one year from the date of purchase – no change or cancellation fees.
Also, if you are using points, the number of points needed to redeem a free flight is directly tied to the price of the ticket. So a cheap fare price during this promotion will also allow you to redeem less points! If you already have a ticket booked with points or paid fare, go ahead and change your flight and you will receive the difference back in points (if points were redeemed) or a credit (if you paid for the flight).
Hat tip to Mommy Points!
Update: Reader DeltaGoldflyer has informed me that many airlines are matching many of the Southwest flights: http://milepoint.com/forums/threads/delta-price-match-sw-air-3-day-sale-35-each-way.20242/
