SPG Rewarding Returns Promotion [Targeted]

I just received an instant message from my husband stating: “hey, SPG promotion. do I want the 25% off redemption or $25 award certificate?” I had no idea what he was talking about, but soon realized he was targeted for a promotion and I wasn’t! WTF! So he forwarded the email and as I assumed, another Rewarding Returns offer was being sent out to folks who have not stayed at a Starwood hotel for quite some time.

If you have been targeted you should have received an email, but I know many of those go straight to SPAM or get deleted, so you can always double check by entering your SPG number at the Rewarding Returns website. If you are eligible, congrats, if not, then we are in the same boat.

The promotion requires you to stay at any Starwood hotel by October 31st and in return you can select one of the three offers:

  • 25% off redemption – You can receive 25% off a Free Night Award redemption for up to five nights at any Category 1-5 hotel or resort. Must be used by October 31, 2013. Now remember, this is only good for all point redemption, not Cash & Points or 5th night free. If you know of an upcoming stay where you can redeem then this is a great offer!
  • US $25 award certificate – Redeem for spa treatments, room service, and more. Personally, this would be the last offer I’d select.
  • 2,000 bonus Starpoints

At a quick whim my husband went with the 2,000 bonus Starpoints as I read the 25% off redemption expiration date wrong and thought it expired in 2012, not 2013. Had I read this correctly, we would have absolutely gone with the 25% off redemption, but oh well. I will be  bitter about this for about a day, and then get offer it (I hope!). UPDATE: It looks like some are getting even better offers, up to 8,000 bonus points and $50 certificates.

On another note, it also seems like Starwood has another targeted offer going on where you can get $25 award certificate or 6 months free of Hulu Plus. Points, Miles, & Martinis has all the details, but you can check to see if you are eligible here. Once again, no go for me!

Make your Starpoints go even further: Take 25% off a Free Night Award redemption for up to five nights at any Category 1–5 hotel or resort. Must be used by October 31, 2013.

    • @Sergey – That is great! Depends what you have coming up. If you will definitely have a 3-5 night stay at a cat 5 where Cash & Points cannot be used, then the 25% off is the way to go.

  2. I got only two options 🙁 , which is better:

“You’ll receive your choice of 3,000 bonus Starpoints or a Free Night Award at a Category 1–5 hotel or resort.”

    • @Peter – When does the free night award expire? If you have a category 3, 4 or 5 stay, then the free night award is definitely better. If it is a category 1 or 2 planned stay, then see if cash and points are available, if so the 3,000 points might be better. Or if it a weekend stay at a cat 1 hotel, then 3,000 points is also better. Generally though the free night award will be better. A category 5 free night is 12,000 points.

  3. I was offered: 25% off award stay (up to 5 nights) or $50 award certificate or 5000 points. Needless to say went with the 5000 points.

  4. I received an email for 5k points or free night cert at a cat 1-6 to be used by 10/30/13. This is my 2nd targeted email like this. Last one was in June for a cat 1-5. They are apllicable after only one stay. Have a stay booked for next week for the free cert.

    • @travel girl – the free category 1-6 night is awesome! Most received up to a category 5 if anything. Where will you be using it?

    • @Amanda – no they should not. As long as it is a paid points earnig stay you are good. Typically the only paid rate that doesn’t earn points are friends and family rates.

  5. Any possibility you still have the copy of the email you mention from this promotion? SPG says I did not sign up for it. (I did) and will not honor the promotion. I was targeted, but sadly deleted the email.

    • @Linda – I wasn’t targeted for this promotion so I do not have the email, but my husband was. I will find out from him if he still has it. I had this issue once and if you ask them to escalate and keep on them you should get the points (at least I did).
