$50 American Express Gift Card Magically Appeared!

I got a great present in the mail yesterday… a $50 American Express gift card and I have no idea why!

The envelope states “A Gift Especially For You… do not discard” but no where in the letter with the gift card attached does it state why I am special and received this! I sign up for a bunch of junk, but I have no recollection on what I could have possibly dont to receive this. I never get targeted for special offers, but maybe this is a first?

So if you receive a plain white envelope in the mail with a few blue stripes, make sure to open it up and do not discard. You might have a free $50 coming your way also.

Anyone else receive this nice surprise?

UPDATE: Reader gbert reminded me that I probably got it since I did two months of direct deposit on my American Express prepaid card. I did take part in this promotion (which ended September 30), and it did work. If you have yet to receive your gift card, make sure to call Amex. Also, this is a reminder to stop the direct deposit to your Amex prepaid card if you were only doing it for the promotion. You can read more about this promotion in this prior blog post.

  1. I also did the Amex direct deposit promotion, but my offer said it would be a $50 credit, which it happened in early October for me.

  2. I did 3 of the American Express prepaid cards and did it according to the terms but didn’t receive my gift card… so I called recently and instead of sending a separate gift card, they just gave a $25 credit on each of the cards… which was quite welcome. Now I can be done with those and move on to my BlueBird card…
