Changes to the Hertz Redemption Chart

Yesterday I received a not so fun email from Hertz letting me know that they are making upcoming changes to their reward redemption chart. While no set information was included, the email did state to redeem for a free car rental will cost about 10-15% more. While I hate when points and miles program devalue and make changes to their award charts, I do appreciate that Hertz is telling us now for a change that will not be taking place till October 1, 2013! I do really really really appreciate that.

Here is the letter I received:

The email also does state that they’ll be enhancing their rewards program by “adding new redemption options with new locations and expanded choices.” No idea what that will mean, but I guess we will soon find out.

I was planning on transferring my E rewards to get 500 Hertz points. That’s enough for a free day (includes 1 – way rentals). I think you wrote about this?

I hope that doesn’t change.

dhammer – 500 Hertz points gets you one free weekend day. However, if you are redeeming for a one-way weekend rental, it will require 1000 points. See http://www.hertz.com/rentacar/emember/rewards-list/loyalty-redemption-points-program for the complete award chart.

National’s Emerald Club allows you to redeem rental credits (free days) for one-way rentals (which also includes mid-week rentals if you choose).

I love the hertz program. I dont think it is unreasonable if the increases are as modest as promised.
