Purchase Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Points at a Discount

Today’s Daily Getaway promotion (Day 21) is selling Hertz Gold Plus Rewards points at a discount. There are two packages for sale and available is EXTREMELY limited making this offer near impossible to get. So here are the three package options:

  1. 5,000 Hertz Gold Rewards® for $280 (or $252 with Amex card). This means you are purchasing points at 5.6 cents per points (or 5.04 cents per point if purchasing with an Amex card). There are only 45 packages available for this option!
  2. 9,000 Hertz Gold Rewards® for $430 (or $387 with Amex card). This means you are purchasing points at 4.78 cents per points (or 4.3 cents per point if purchasing with an Amex card). There are only 35 packages available for this option!
  3. 15,000 Hertz Gold Plus Rewards® for $720 (or $648 with Amex card). This means you are purchasing points at 4.8 cents per point (or 4.32 cents per point if purchasing with an Amex card). There are only 50 packages available for this option!

As you can see from above packages 2 and 3 are much better as you are purchasing points for less, but with the limited quantities you gotta take what you can get. This can be a good value to get a discounted rental car. For example, a free one day rental typically requires 600 points. You can look at the awards chart here. By purchasing points through this sale, that one day rental will essentially cost you about $26 (based on being able to purchase points at the cheaper rate and using an American Express card to buy the package). If you can typically get a car rental for less than this, then this is not the deal for you. If you are looking at renting a car in an expensive location or time period, then this can work out – think about ski vacations or holiday vacations. Also, with multiple day rentals the cost per day goes down as you get a little break. This is for a standard reservation only, and for an “anytime” reservation if there is a blackout date or a peak time period, the cost to redeem the points is double. A great redemption opportunity is for one way rentals as that requires 1,200 points, so about $50. Many times one-way rentals can be extremely expensive and about $100! Keep in mind though that Hertz is increasing the number of points needed for a free rental starting in October. You can read more about it in this prior blog post.

Before purchasing the points, you must have a Hertz Gold Plus Rewards member number. If you’re not already a member, you can sign up here. Hertz points do not expire, however, you must keep your account activate every 24 months.

This deal will go on sale at 1pm EST TODAY Monday July 8th. Availability is extremely limited with so if you are interested make sure to act fast. I suggest getting on the computer a few minutes beforehand and continuously clicking the refresh button so you can make the purchase immediately. Also remember, like all other Daily Getaway promotions, you’ll receive 10% off the purchase price if you use any American Express credit card.

You can find out more about this 5 weeks of Daily Getaway Travel promotions in this prior blog post.

Cheers for letting me know … had hoped that UK folk like myself could get involved, but not to be.

I was able to nab 5000 points for $252. A great deal since I’ve got a week reservation upcoming in Hawaii and the best avail rate was $450. Now I can use 2500 points for that week rental and still have a week rental in my back pocket…
