A New Type of Amex Sync – TripAdvisor! And Free $5 Credit

This post may contain affiliate links from our advertising partners, such as American Express. Read my Advertiser Disclosure policy here. Additionally, some of the offers on this page may no longer be available through Deals We Like.

I’ve written about the various type of American Express sync promotions in the past with partners such as Twitter, Foursquare, Facebook, etc. Well a new partner has come to play, TripAdvisor.

Join TripAdvisor, connect your American Express card with TripAdvisor,  write a review, and receive a $5 statement credit. You are limited to one statement credit per connected card and you must post by December 31, 2013. The terms also state that quantities are limited, so you might as well go ahead and review your most recent hotel stay now!

While the statement credit is great, the partnership is trying to create an Amex community where card members can gain access to:

  1. Card member review: Read trusted Card Member reviews and post your own. All Card Members who join will be tagged as an “Amex Traveler” so you can easily find reviews from others in the community. Reviews marked “Amex Card Member Review” confirm that the reviewer used an American Express Card at that location.
  2. Card Member Hotspot Lists: Looking for a hidden gem or inspiration for your next trip? Get access to exclusive lists of restaurants and hotels trending with Card Members around the world.
  3. Card Member Perks: Get more out of your next trip with exclusive Card Member offers from top hotels and restaurants. Once you join, simply save them to your Card. There are no coupons to slow you down.

There should also be more “syncing” promotions from a variety of travel merchants – hotels, restaurants, etc. There is already one listed where you can get a $50 statement credit when you spend $250 or more on a hotel booking with www.amextravel.com. Hopefully this is just another way to get free money with Amex!!

I went ahead and synced my Amex with TripAdvisor and the whole process took less than two minutes. TripAdvisor will then pull in your recent restaurant and hotel transactions with your card that are review eligible. I went ahead and reviewed a recent restaurant and my statement credit should apply within a few days. I’ll keep you all posted on this.

  1. @joe – thats the only way AMEX/tripadvisor would know if you’ve been there. its actually a brilliant way to ensure true customers (despite the obvious privacy concerns – but im all for selling that for $5) =)

  2. That sounds typical AMEX to think I am going to give them free advertising on all my trip advisor reviews………..they must be smoking crack cocaine……

  3. Bonus is limited to one credit per connected card, and you can only have one connected card per Tripadvisor account. The T&C say you have to leave the card connected until the $5 posts, but I wonder if you could then disconnect the card, connect another, and get another $5…

    • @Tonei – It is one card per TripAdvisor account. Probably easier to just create another TripAdvisor account…
