Southwest is having a 72-hour sale with fares starting at $79 one-way. Must book by November 24, 2013 for travel between December 10, 2013 and March 12, 2014. They are calling this a pre-blackflyday sale, but I really hope there is a much better Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale.

While the terms state travel on Tuesday and Wednesday only, there are a few flights I’ve been eyeing and they did go down in price since yesterday and were not on a Tue/Wed. While they did not go down significantly, it is something. Also remember, $72 is the “starting at” price, not a fixed price.

Some times when Southwest Airlines has these fare sales many other airlines seem to match, so be on the look out. I’ll keep my eye out as well. Typically the matching will start later in the day the sale was announced (so later today) or the following day (so tomorrow).

Remember, if you already have a Southwest flight already booked for this time period, it is worth looking into to see if the price has gone down:

  • For paid flights, you will receive a voucher for the difference to be used one year from the date the flight was purchased. This voucher is non-transferable.
  • For flights booked with points, the difference in points will go back into your account. You can re-book your original flight online to get this voucher/point difference credited – no phone call is needed.

While Southwest sales are not as good as they used to be, you might find a good deal. You can check out the terms and book here.
