Amtrak just announced a new promotion where if you travel on Amtrak between January 6 and March 1, 2014, you will earn free Amtrak rides!

  • Northeast Regional: 2 roundtrips = 1 free roundtrip (free trip valid July 1 – August 31, 2014)
  • Acela: 3 roundtrips = 1 free roundtrip (free trip valid July 1 – August 31, 2014)
  • Amtrak Cascades: 2 roundtrips = 1 free roundtrip (free trip valid March 2 – April 3, 2014)
  • Hiawatha: 2 roundtrips = 1 free roundtrip (free trip valid March 2 – May 31, 2014)

The terms are pretty straight forward, and actually instead of two roundtrips it can be four one-way trips, which is great. Each one-way must be at least $49, which they typically are so there should be no issues there. You are limited to two qualifying one-way segments per day.

The free trip voucher can actually be redeemed for two one-ways and you are able to earn a maximum of two roundtrips (four one-ways). Unfortunately the free rides come with blackout dates: Northeast Regional and Acela – 7/3, 7/6, and 8/29; Amtrak Cascades – 4/17, 4/18, 4/21; Hiawatha – 4/17, 4/18, 4/21, 5/23

While I wouldn’t go out of my way to earn these free train rides, if you already have upcoming travel, this is a great promotion!

You MUST register for this promotion prior to taking your trip!
