More Southwest International Destinations in 2014

Yesterday I posted some exciting news that Southwest will be flying to some international destinations starting July 1, 2014. These three routes include Aruba, Montego Bay, and Nassau. Unfortunately these routes are only available from a select few destinations, but should open up to other destinations in the near future.

While there is no set date yet, Southwest has stated that “By the end of 2014, the carrier plans to complete the launch of Southwest Airlines service to the remaining four international destinations on the Company’s network route map.”

This means by the end of the year, we should see Southwest service to: Mexico City, Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, and Punta Cana. This really opens up the sunny beach destinations for Southwest fliers and another opportunity to use your points and companion pass. My assumption is that in 2015 we will even see Southwest flying into more international destinations as well that have not yet been determined.

Also, a few readers emailed/commented about using the companion pass on these international routes. As long as you can book your reservation through Southwest then you CAN use your companion pass. If the route is still only available to be booked through AirTran then you CANNOT use your companion pass.

While I am happy I have a Southwest companion pass to fly around the US, I am even more excited to start planning a trip to Aruba this Fall!

Is anyone else as excited as I am?! Anyone already dreaming of using their Southwest Companion Pass on one of these new routes this year?
