Free Uber and Lyft Rides in Houston

Although Uber and Lyft are still illegal in Houston, they are both entering the market and offering free rides. Since they will not be getting paid, it is legal! You can read more about the politics here. These two on-demand services are available in Houston’s Inner Loop and there is no set end date for the free rides. You also cannot tip the drivers as this would be considered collecting money and then illegal.

I personally have never tried out Lyft, but I absolutely love UberX. I’ve taken it quite often in NYC and have tried it out in DC and Boston as well. The free rides in Houston are only for UberX rides.

If you are a new Uber member, you can maximize by signing up through a referral first.

  • New Uber members can get a free $20 credit just be signing up. This sign up must come from an existing member (the referrer receives a $20 credit as well after you take your first Uber trip). Once again, feel free to use my Uber referral link, or get a friend to refer you.
  • You can also apply the code KALEB (in the promotions section of your account) to get another $20 in free credits. If you do not plan on paying for an Uber trip yet then I would hold off as these are one time promotions and it is possible that another promotion worth more then $20 comes available.

Thanks to Dans Deal for sharing this promotion!
