Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard Minimum Spend Increased

Last week I announced that the Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite MasterCard®would be increasing its minimum spend requirements from $1,000 spend to $3,000 spend within the first three months. While at the time there was no set date of this increase, but it did go into affect late last week (related blog post).

I personally do not see this as a huge ordeal as I typically use Vanilla Reloads to meet my minimum spend so can hit $1,000 or $3,000 with no problem. But for some, spending $3,000 in three months is not so easy. Fortunately though, another blogger Million Mile Secrets found that the increased spend has not yet hit phone applications yet, so you can apply over the phone and get the same 40,000 points after meeting the $1,000 minimum spend requirement. Of course, there is no saying how long this will last, so feel free to post your success in the comments section. I personally hate calling to apply for credit cards, but the number is 1-800-307-0341).

Credit card details: You can read more about the card in this prior post, but here is a quick synopsis.

  • Earn 40,000 bonus points after meeting the minimum spend requirement
  • Earn 2 points  per dollar spent on ALL purchases
  • Since this is a fixed redemption program 1 point = 1 cent on travel purchases
  • When redeeming your points you will get 5% back on your redemption, thus really giving you 2.1% back on all purchases!
  • Redeem your points in 2,500 point increments
  • Annual fee of $89/year, but waived the first year

So the 40,000 points you get from the sign up bonus equal a flat $400, but when you go to use those 40,000 points you will get 5% back to your account, which equals 2,000 points (or $20).

The good thing about this is you will still earn points with the specific airline carrier or hotel chain when using your points. The airline and hotel do not consider this a free flight/night. When using other redemption programs you do not earn points/miles when redeeming for a free flight/night.

You can read more about the card and sign up here. Remember, this link has the $3,000 minimum spend requirement.

Disclosure: I earn commission if you apply online, but not via the phone. As always though, I will only list the best offers as my goal is for your to travel on a deal! Thanks for supporting the blog!

  1. That stinks. My wife got this card as part of her latest churn but I was planning on getting one later this month.

Still, since this is one of the best cards to put most spend on, meeting the $3000 spend isn’t that onerous.

  2. Just applied over the phone and got instant approval. Verified that it is $1000 spending requirement within 90 days to get the 40K bonus miles. Thanks for the tip.
