Amex Sync: Spend $100+ at Staples, get a $20 Statement Credit

UPDATE: Looks like this one has already reached its maximum amount of enrollment.

By syncing your American Express card, you can get a $20 statement credit with a $100+ purchase at Staples in-store and online at This promotion ends April 30, 2014 and you must tweet #AmexStaples.

The great news about this is that you an purchase a physical gift card in store for $100 and the $20 credit will still apply! This works for Staples gift cards or any other merchant gift card.  The promotion specifically states that e-gift cards are not eligible and unfortunately the e-gift cards online are the ones with no fee, while the regular gift cards cary a $1.99 fee. I am not quite sure how Amex will know what type of gift card purchase you make, but to play it safe, I suggest purchasing a regular gift card until there are reports that both work (if in fact this is the case). Also, Staples sells Visa gift cards, although they do come with a $5.95 fee.

I absolutely love the American Express Sync concept and have received a bunch of statement credits due to making purchase with a registered Amex credit card. Remember, these promotions are only valuable to those with an American Express card (no Corporate or prepaid cards) and is only a one-time statement credit. If you have multiple Amex cards, you will need to sync them to different accounts.

If you have multiple Amex cards, you will need to sync them to different accounts. To learn more about these American Express Sync promotions, read this Amex Sync series, “Amex Sync 101: Overview and Q&A“, “Amex Sync 201: Syncing with“, and “Amex Sync 301: Syncing with Twitter

  1. I got a promotion code in my e-mail for $5.00 off my bill payment with evolve money–if these promotion codes are a regular thing, I’ll gladly spend the $5.95 to buy a visa gift card. I love how Evolve has my Sallie Mae student loan, as well as my Gas and Electric companies that charge a % for credit card transactions.

This promo would definitely stack with this, for about $18 in free money!

  2. Bummer. Looks like this already maxed out! Twitter response: @careykohout Sorry, max # of Card Members have enrolled in #AmexStaples offer. Visit for more offers

  3. Try logging into your AmEx account and checking the offers tab just to be sure. Sometimes it is still available in there even if the twitter maximum is reached.
