US Airways World MasterCard Offer

There is currently a 40,000 point offer for the US Airways Premier World Mastercard which is one of the better publicly available offers we’ve seen. To earn this sign up bonus all you have to do is make one single purchase on the card (no minimum spend required!) and pay the $89 annual fee.

In the past, there were links available for 35,000 points and annual fee waived the first year  (which I’d prefer), but that offer is no longer available. So ultimately you are paying $89 for the first year to earn an additional 5,000 points. This valuation is slightly lower then how I like to redeem my points, but it is not horrible. There is also no saying if there will be a better offer publicly available before this card is extinct (due to merger).

I love the fact though that there is no ridiculously high minimum spend amount required like many of the other credit cards out there. Additionally, I’ve also read many reports on FlyerTalk that folks who made a minimal purchase to receive the sign up bonus points and then stopped using the card received targeted offers that if they spend a certain amount of money in the card in a few months they’d earn additional bonus points!

This card also waives the baggage fee on your first checked bag for you and up to four companions on the same reservation for domestic US Airways operated flights. You’ll also receive one companion certificate that is good for up to 2 guests to travel with you on a US Airways operated flight at $99 each, plus taxes and fees. And one of the best perks of being a US Airways card member is that when you go to redeem your miles you get a 5,000 mile discount (only valid on US Airways operated flights).

While there is no set timeframe yet, eventually this US Airways credit card will go away (due to the American and US Airways merger), so it is always good to increase your mileage balance while you can.

  1. Am I crazy for thinking there is a major devaluation coming when they fully merge? Why else would they keep the AA 100k offer around so long, and now bumping this knowing that these mileage accounts will be merged into AA…I hope I’m just crazy o.O

  2. I would say it is definitely coming but we will have so many miles it won’t be an issue. Probably more of a hit to international redemptions.

  3. Like you mentioned I got the card in December and made one purchase then never used it again. In March I got an offer that if I spent at least $750 every month for April, May, and June I would get 15,000 bonus miles. That works for me. After that it will go back in the drawer until I get another offer.

  4. I have got this card twice, but have not held the card for the last six months. Can I still get this one again?

  5. When the card changes to the Barclay AA card will we be offered a bonus again or will we just have a new card? New look, no bonus. first time posting… 4 months in the hobby.

    • @milesforfive – Welcome to the hobby! For existing cardmembers, it will just be a new card. There might not be a way to apply for this card if you are not a cardmember before the change goes into affect.
