$5 Swagbucks for New Users with a $25+ Online Purchase

A few days ago I wrote about the online shopping portal Swagbucks. This portal received a lot of attention this week as it is offering 6x points on Staples purchases (note: as of right now Swagbucks is telling me that gift card purchases are excluded). You can read more about it here.

Originally I posted that new users to the site would receive an automatic 50 Swagbucks by entering the code “FreeGiftCards”. While that really doesn’t equate to much (50 cents), I came across another promotion where you can actually earn 500 SBs (worth $5) after you spend $25+ with a merchant online. This is clearly a better promotion, although it doesn’t give you the bonus points right away like the other code. You must sign up by May 7, 2014 to be eligible for this promotion.

To earn these 500 Swagbucks, you must register as a new user using this referral link.

Terms: 500 Swag Bucks (approximate retail value $5 USD) (“Credit”) when you sign up
for a Swagbucks.com account via an applicable referral link and make a purchase
of $25 USD or more through the Swagbucks.com Shop & Earn webpage between 12:01
AM PST on April 7, 2014 and 11:59 PM PST on May 7, 2014 (a “Qualifying
Purchase”). Offer valid for new Swagbucks.com accounts only. Credit will be
issued to your Swagbucks.com account within thirty-five (35) days of your
Qualifying Purchase. Limit ONE (1) Credit per person. This offer may not be
transferred; cannot be redeemed for cash; and cannot be combined with other
offers.  Prodege, LLC reserves the right
to add, modify, or discontinue this offer at any time, for any reason or no
reason, with or without notice. Valid only in U.S., Canada and the U.K. Void
where prohibited. Subject to the Swagbucks.com Terms of Use and Privacy Policy
found at http://www.swagbucks.com/g/terms and http://www.swagbucks.com/g/privacy
, respectively.

    • @Jenny – I’ve been in communication with the marketing person at Swagbucks and they have ensured me that you’ll get the 500 SBs as long as you sign up through the link I provided. While I personally believe it should be mentioned on the sign up page, the bonus really isn’t for signing up, but for making a $25+ purchase through the Shop & Earn tab.

  1. My Staples purchase of Visa GCs did NOT earn Swagbucks. I bought 10 $200 Visa gift cards and threw in a box of trash bags. I only received Swagbucks for the portion of my purchase that included the trash bags.

I’m going to email the Swagbucks portal and try to argue it.

    • @emily – let me know how that goes. I am trying to get in touch with someone at Swagbucks specifically about Staples gift card purchases at well. However, did your gift cards ship yet? Staples might not have communicated the transaction due to that.

  2. I made a purchase through swagbucks from Staples on 4/30 for 5 gift cards at $200 each. How long should it take for swag points to post to my account? I received my cards in the mail from Staples on 5/4.

    • @David – I was told by Swagbucks a few days ago that gift card purchases are excluded. However, there is no terms stated that they do not qualify, so I suggest opening up a ticket with them.

  3. Just received an email saying that my Swagbucks are pending for the Visa gc purchases I made through Staples: 1242 each for the $206.95 purchase. Also hoping for the 500 bonus. Thanks!
