Transfer Membership Rewards to Hilton with a 33% Bonus

Through November 30, 2014, you can get a 33% when you transfer your American Express Membership Reward points to the Hilton Honors program. Even with the bonus, I probably do not transferring your points over unless it mathematically makes sense. This is a targeted promotion and you must sign into your Amex Membership Rewards account to see if you are eligible.

Typically, when transferring your points it is 1,000 Membership Reward points = 1,500 Hilton HHonors points. However, with this promotion you’ll get 2,000 Hilton Honors points for every 1,000 transferred. The Hilton program really devalued last year so even though you are doubling the number of points you’ll get during the transfer, I value Hilton points at about .5 cents per point. Based on my valuation, 1,000 Membership Reward points is equal to $1 making each Membership Reward point 1 cent per point. This is definitely not a good value in my book.

Although, every award reservation is different and you definitely need to do the math for your desired Hilton stay to see if it makes sense. The best usage of this promotion would be for those who need to top off an award. So if you are a few thousand points off from a great vacation, transferring points over (even if not at the best valuation) could be worth it.

Also remember, if you have status or one of the Amex co-branded Hilton credit cards, you have some access to discounted awards as well, which could make those transferred Amex points go slightly further. You can read more about these discounted award here:

You do not need to register for this promotion as it is already hard coded in when you transfer your points from the Membership Rewards site. You will also receive the bonus points immediately with the transfer – they will not come at a future time.
