$50 Statement Credit at Marriott Hotels!

A few days ago American Express came out with a great offer where you can get a $50 statement credit with a $200+ purchase at a Marriott hotel. This ultimately means you can get up to 20% off your hotel stay! And the best part is the offer is available via Twitter which means you can take advantage of this promotion on every single American Express credit card you have.

This promotion is valid for transactions between November 6 and December 31, 2014. That means the charge must hit your credit card between these dates to trigger the statement credit. This also means that your total bill must be at least $200, which includes tax and any other incidentals you put on your room bill. This is also only available for Marriott hotels (not other hotels under their umbrella) in the US and Puerto Rico. You also much pay Marriott directly. Staying at a Marriott hotel, but paying a third-part system will not qualify you for the offer (i.e. Jetsetter, TravelPony, Hotels.com if you pay Hotels.com directly and not the hotel, etc.).

Marriott Amex Sync

To enroll in this offer:

  • Sync your American Express credit card to Twitter (you can do that here). If you are not sure which card is currently synced with your account, you can unsync and then re-sync.
  • Tweet #AmexMarriott
  • Enrollment is limited so I suggest syncing and tweeting NOW!

Marriott Amex Sync

Earlier this year there was a similar offer with Courtyard hotels and I was able to purchase a gift card and it triggered the statement credit. This meant walking into a Courtyard and purchasing a gift card directly. That means you might be able to do the same with a Marriott hotel – walk into the hotel and see if you can purchase a $200 gift card. The benefit is that you can then use the gift card to pay for a stay post December 31, 2014, and can then use multiple gift cards on a stay if you have an expensive stay coming up. Has anyone had any success purchasing gift cards at a Marriott hotel and it triggering the statement credit?

I love when Amex offers their Sync promotions via Twitter as it makes it a lot easier to register all of your Amex cards. To learn more about these American Express Sync promotions, read this Amex Sync series:

    • @Matt – You’d have to make the purchase from a Marriott, not another Marriott chain hotel, i.e., Courtyard, Renaissance, etc. And remember, must be in the US or Puerto Rico.

  1. I was told that you could only sync one Amex card to your twitter account. Are you using a different twitter account for each Amex card to take advantage of the deal for each of your Amex cards?

    • @Cathy – You can only sync one Amex card to each twitter account, so I have a twitter account set up for each of my cards.

    • @Nick – You could do that, but I find it more of a pain. I actually have a different twitter account set up for each of my American Express credit cards. For example, I have a twitter account set up called “DeltaAmexJen” and another one “BloomingdalesAmexJen” and so on. While it takes some upfront work to set up all the twitter accounts and then sync each card to an account it works great for the long term. Does that make sense?
