Up To 14.5% off Hyatt Gift Cards

This is a quick reminder that you only have a few days left to purchase Hyatt gift cards either with a 10% or 14.5% discount. This is a great discount especially if you plan on staying at Hyatt hotels this upcoming year. Remember, you can pay with anything on your room bill with a Hyatt gift card. This includes the room rate, tax, activities charged to your room, food and drink charged to your room, etc. So even if you are using points for a free night, you might have additional charged on your room that you can pay for with a Hyatt gift card. I wrote about this promotion back in November when it was first announced.

The promotion allows you to get 10% off the purchase of gift cards and gift checks through December 31, 2014. However, if you have an American Express OPEN credit card you’ll get 5% back as a statement credit (up to $10,000 per card per calendar year). So let’s say you purchase a $1,000 plastic gift card, it will cost you $900 and you’ll get $45 back as a statement credit. Instead of the 10% back, you’ll be getting 14.5% off the purchase of gift cards.

Make sure to use promotion code GPGIFT14 at checkout. There are three different purchase options:

  • eGift card – Gift card is delivered to the recipient via email so there are no shipping charges. These are valid at Hyatt hotels in the U.S., Canada, and Caribbean. International locations do not accept this payment option (at least at this given time). This option is not eligible for 5% statement credit if paying with an Amex OPEN credit card.
  • Plastic gift card – Similar to the eGift cards, these are also only currently accepted at Hyatt hotels in the U.S., Canada, and Caribbean. As of recently there is now the option to have these gift cards shipped via USPS for free. This option is eligible for the 5% statement credit if paying with an Amex OPEN credit card.
  • Hyatt Checks – Paper gift cards which also come with a $6 delivery fee. These certificates, however, are accepted globally. The major caveat to this is I typically find exchange rates to be horrible at hotels. I get a much better value when they charge my credit card in local currency and then the credit card does the exchange for me. Also, these certificates are a one time use so if your bill is less than the paper check amount, you forfeit the remaining value. I personally do not recommend this type of certificate. This option is eligible for the 5% statement credit if paying with an Amex OPEN credit card

Here is a list of hotels that accept both the gift cards and check. Both options have no expiration date as well.

American Express OPEN credit cards include: The Business Platinum Card, The Business Gold Rewards Card, The Plum Card, Simplycash Business Credit Card, Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card, Gold Delta Skymiles Business Credit Card, Blue for Business Credit Card, Platinum Delta Skymiles Business Credit Card, Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card.

Other ways to save at Hyatt hotels: You can also save 33% on Hyatt gift cards by taking part of this Amex Offer and purchasing a $150 Hyatt gift card and getting a $30 statement credit. You can also purchase a $200 Hyatt gift card at Newegg.com and receive a $25 statement credit – ultimately giving you 12.5% discount on a gift card.
