You can currently fly from the US (excluding Hawaii) or Canada to Hong Kong on an economy class award ticket with United airlines at 20% off the normal mileage rate. For a limited time you can book a roundtrip ticket for only 64,000 miles. For this promotion to work, you must book by February 1, 2015 and travel between March 2 and April 20, 2015. Another restriction is that you can only travel on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Saturday and Sunday travel will disqualify you to get the 20% off. So if you are looking to go to Hong Kong already, this could save you some miles, but there are quite a few restrictions and the booking and travel window is tight.
When looking at the United.com site, this is only available for United operated flights, NOT partner flights. You’ll see that the 32,000 miles each way is already hard coded into the system and you do not need to apply any promotion code. You can learn more about this offer directly on United’s website.
And while 64,000 miles is much better than the normal 80,000 miles United requires, you can always book with American Airlines using only 70,000 miles. And if you have an American Airlines credit card you’ll earn 10% of the miles back (up to 10,000 miles a year) making the award ticket really only costing 63,000 miles.
