United Airlines is running a pretty good promotion where you can earn bonus miles by shopping through their online portal. Between now and November 24, 2015, you can earn up to 6,000 bonus miles based on how much you spend online:

  • 500 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $150, or
  • 1,500 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $350, or
  • 3,000 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $650, or
  • 6,000 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of $1,250 or more

So if you have a large purchase, or cumulative purchases resulting in over $1,250 spend, I suggest taking a look at the United shopping portal. There is also an American Airlines shopping portal bonus offer during the same time period, but you can only get 5,000 bonus miles. Of course one portal might pay out more than the other for regular purchases, so take a look at both.

What is an online shopping portal?

For those not familiar with an online shopping portal, essentially you go through the shopping portal first (in this case Americans), search for your online merchant, and you’ll then be taken directly to that merchants online website. At that point, you’ll shop how you normally would as if you went to the merchants site to begin with. It literally takes an extra minute and allows you to earn points or miles on the way.
