Wyndham hotels is running a partnership with American Airlines where you can earn up to 15,000 bonus AAdvantage miles. With this promotion you’ll earn 3,000 bonus miles for every stay, up through your 5th stay. It is actually an extremely lucrative promotion which runs through February 29, 2016.
To take advantage of this offer, you must select the earning miles preference in your account and opt for American Airlines AAdvantage miles. You also must register for this promotion here.
This means instead of earning Wyndham points during your stay, you’ll be earning American Airline miles. So just keep that in mind, although in most situations earning the miles will be much better. The 3,000 bonus miles per stay is also in addition to the miles you’ll earn anyways. Depending on the type of Wyndham brand you are staying at, you’ll either earn 2 miles per dollar spent (at Wingate by Wyndham, Ramada, Days Inn, Super 8, Baymont, Microtel, Howard Johnson, Travelodge, Knights Inn) or 500 miles (Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Hawthorn, TRYP by Wyndham, and Dolce Hotels and Resorts).
I also have not stayed at a Wyndham hotel for a few years, but last time I took advantage of an even more lucrative offer, Wyndham awarded points/miles even if you did not physically check into the hotel. That had been the case for years, but I am not sure if “phantom” stays still gets the points/miles. If this is still the case, or if you live near a really cheap Wyndham property, this could be a way to “buy” American Airline miles for a decent deal. Many Wyndham properties can be found typically for less then $50/night.
