Delta is offering a special promotion where they are discounted their economy class roundtrip milage redemption tickets. Instead of the typical 60,000 miles, you can fly to London from the US for just 45,000 miles. Of course there are some restrictions on the tickets – they need to be purchased by January 18, 2016 for travel February 1 through March 24, 2015. You also must stay over a Saturday night.
I searched random dates in February to go between JFK and London and saw that almost all days had the low 45,000 mile redemption available. Remember though, taxes to/from London are not cheap, so you’ll still be looking at an additional $186 on top of the miles. This means I’d only redeem miles (instead of paying for the flight) if a) you are looking to get rid of your Delta miles or b) if the flight is over $800.
However, IF you are looking for just a one way fare from the US to London this can be a great option. Since the taxes and fees are expensive departing London, you’ll actually only pay $5.60 for a one way flight from the US to London. And, the award is still discounted, so you’ll only pay 22,500 miles for the one way flight.
Blackout dates include:
- New York-Kennedy, NY (JFK) to London-Heathrow, United Kingdom (LHR): February 2 – February 6, 2016
- London-Heathrow, United Kingdom (LHR) to Detroit, MI (DTW): March 19 – March 24, 2016
