Last month, the IHG Rewards Club Select credit card increased its publicly available offer where you will earn 70,000 points after spending $2,000 on the card within the first three months. Typically, this card has offered 60,000 points, BUT, there are many times where members will receive targeted offers via email, mail, or their online account offering up to 80,000 points! The current increased offer is slated to end in just a few days on July 29, 2016. UPDATE: This offer is expired. You can learn more about credit card offers here.

A Card to Keep Year After Year

I personally applied for the IHG Rewards Club Select credit card within the past two years and I really think it is one of the best credit cards available! It is one that everyone should have on their portfolio and hold onto year after year. While the yearly annual fee is $49 (waived the first year), you get a free night at ANY IHG hotel every single anniversary year. My husband applied for the card at the same day I did, so we have two nights to use at any high end InterContinental hotel (or any other hotel under the umbrella) for $99 total. I personally think it is well worth it and even if I am only able to use it at a lower end hotel, I’ll still be ahead. You can learn more about this amazing benefit here.

For example, my parents actually just booked two nights at the InterContinental in Paris with their respective IHG credit card certificates. These hotels are going for well over $400/night (not to say they would have actually paid that), but in theory are staying for only $49/night, which includes tax!

Applied During a Lower Offer?

If you’ve recently applied for this card during the 60,000 point offer, I highly suggest sending Chase a secure message asking them to math the current offer. Chase is typically good with this as long as you’ve applied for the card within the past 90 days, although no guarantee.

Overall…

This is an excellent card to have, although no really one I’d use for everyday spending. On top of the sign up bonus and free night certificate after your first anniversary year, you also receive automatic Platinum status. While I do not put much value on IHG Platinum status, it is still a nice to have when staying at an IHG hotel. Keep in mind that Chase just recently started applying their “5/24” rule where they will only approve you for co-branded or business credit cards if you have NOT been approved for 5 or more credit cards (with any banks) in the past 24 months. This also includes being added as an authorized user. Fortunately, there are a few cards that do not currently follow this rule, and the IHG credit card is one of them! For that reason alone, I suggest getting this card sooner than later while you still have a chance (assuming you apply for a decent number of credit cads each year!). You can learn more about the Chase “5/24” rule here.
