I am very excited to share the news that WOW Air is coming to New York (Newark airport to be exact) this Fall! Currently, this low cost airline only has flights out of Boston and Baltimore on the east cost, so adding another airport is very exciting and will allow more people to fly to Iceland (and then onto other European destinations) for cheap. For west coast people, you can fly from San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The best part is that fares are starting at $99 one way, including tax! While you way have to pay for additional add-on’s, such as seat assignment and luggage, it is still an incredibly cheap way to get to Iceland.
I personally flew WOW Air last September and had a great experience. I flew Boston to Rekjavik, Iceland and then spent 5 nights traveling around the country. The best part is that it is a short flight (shorter than flying domestic coast to coast) and you can typically always find a cheap fare! While this is a no frills airline, I personally do not mind flying coach and was perfectly content with the aircraft, seat size, and leg room. You can read my full review here.
Flights on this route start November 25, 2016. Flights from Newark to Rekjavik depart at 5:35pm and the return flight from Rekjavik back to Newark departs at 3:15pm. This allows you to take work an entire day, take an overnight flight, and have a full next day exploring Iceland. On the return, the it allows you ample time to spend the morning at the Blue Lagoon and then to head directly to the airport.
I absolutely loved Iceland and highly recommend it! Even if you only have a long weekend to spare, it can easily be done. Enjoy this new route and the low fares!
