Southwest just announced many new routes that will be available throughout the year both domestically and to the Caribbean. I am personally very excited about many of these new additions as this will add more non-stop service across the country as well as new destinations!

New Destinations

  • Cincinnati: This is a new airport being serviced with non-stop service to/from Chicago (Midway) and Baltimore
  • Grand Cayman: Another new destination being served, but will not start until June 4, 2017, assuming government approval. Currently, there will be direct flights to Ft. Lauderdale. These flights are not yet available to book so I am not sure of the daily schedule and how it will allow folks to connect in Ft. Lauderdale to fly to Grand Cayman from other destinations throughout the US.

New Routes

  • Cleveland-Atlanta: This is a new non-stop service
  • Cleveland-St. Louis: There will be a second daily flight added between these two cities
  • Ft. Lauderdale-Montego Bay: New non-stop service starting June 4
  • Ft. Lauderdale-Belize: New non-stop service starting June 4
  • Ft. Lauderdale-Cancun: New non-stop service starting June 4
  • Ft. Lauderdale-Orlando: Daily service between these two cities
  • Ft. Lauderdale-Washington, DC (Dulles): New non-stop daily service
  • Ft. Lauderdale-Philadelphia: New non-stop daily service
  • Tampa-New York (LaGuardia): Twice daily service
  • Pensacola-Denver: Weekend non-stop service
  • Portland, Oregon-San Francisco: New non-stop service starting June 4
  • San Jose, California-Reno: New non-stop service starting June 4
  • Oakland-New York (Newark): Seasonal non-stop service starting June 4
  • San Diego-Boise: New non-stop service starting June 4
  • San Diego-Salt Lake City: New non-stop service starting June 4
  • San Diego-New York (Newark): Seasonal non-stop service starting June 4
  • San Diego-Spokane: Seasonal non-stop service starting June 4
  • San Diego-Indianapolis: Seasonal non-stop service starting June 4
  • New York (Newark)-Indianapolis: New non-stop service starting June 4
  • Nashville-Minneapolis: New non-stop service starting June 4

This is great news for Southwest fliers throughout the country. I am personally excited that there will be non-stop flights between the east and west coast (although minimal) and that they are continuing to increase their Caribbean presence.

I’m fired up about GCM. I always thought there was room for more direct service from the South Florida area, with the only two carriers running the route being AA and Cayman Air out of MIA. Though I will say I’m surprised that it wasn’t JetBlue to start service FLL-GCM, given that JetBlue already has a presence in GCM and FLL is a major hub for them. Regardless, as a huge Grand Cayman/ 7 mile beach fan who lives in Florida, this is great news!!!
