2 Better Perks with the Starwood Business Credit Card

With the Starwood credit card, many people just automatically assume to apply for the personal card, however, there are actually some added perks that you’ll receive by having the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express OPEN (over the personal version of the card). Remember, American Express has a once in a lifetime bonus rule, meaning if you’ve received the bonus previously, you will not be eligible again. If you’ve already had the personal card though, you are eligible for the business version, and vice versa.

Difference between personal and business versions

You’ll notice that the personal and business offers of the respective cards are very similar in nature. Although there are two main differences where the business version has a leg up:

  • OPEN Savings: With the business version of the card you are eligible to American Express OPEN savings. This gives you 5% statement credit when you use your card at many merchants, including: FedEx, Hertz, etc. You can read more about AMEX Open savings here.
  • Lounge Access: This is by far the best perk of the business card. Two years ago a new perk was to the SPG business credit card where you’ll receive FREE club lounge access at all Sheraton hotels worldwide. If you stay at Sheraton hotels and do not have top tier status, this can be a HUGE perk as you will receive complimentary daily breakfast, a premium selection of beverages, and evening hors d’oeuvres. There are also snacks throughout the day and free WiFi access. As long as you book directly with Starwood, you are given this benefit (regardless if it is a paid stay, or a stay using points or cash = points). I personally have found Sheraton lounges to be spotty throughout the US, but international lounges are typically top notch. You can read more about this complimentary lounge access here.
