The Iceland based low-cost carrier, WOW Air, is expanding their service to Chicago. This will be the 8th US destination (including Boston, Baltimore, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, and Pittsburgh). This is a nice inexpensive way for those that live near Chicago to get to Iceland or other cities throughout Europe with a connection in Iceland. This service will start in July 2017 and prices starting at only $99 one way! Like most flights to Iceland, the best fares will be outside of the summer months.
With this new service, you’ll be able to fly to Iceland 4x a week as well as connect to many other cities throughout Europe. Flights either way will only run on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. I am actually surprised to not see a Sunday return option as Iceland is an extremely long weekend destination from the US.
I personally flew WOW Air from Boston to Reykjavik, Iceland about a year and a half ago and had a great experience! While they do charge extra for checked bags, carry on luggage, and seat assignment, if you pack light and do not care where you sit for the short flight you could get away without paying anything extra. Even if you do need to pay some extra, the cheap fare usually (although not aways!) makes up for it! You can read my review here.

Yes, though most cities ending in a “burg” do not (Harrisburg, Gettysburg, etc.) So, it was an honest (and common) mistake on the part of our lovely, gracious and talented hostess, who routinely does an excellent job.

Living in Chicago I was starting to get jealous of all the other cities that had this service. I’m not much for budget airlines, but I’m willing to make exceptions for Iceland!
