Daily Getaways: Purchase Choice Points at a Discount

Today’s Daily Getaway promotion (Week 3, Day 5) is offering the opportunity to purchase Choice Privileges points at a discount. This deal is pricing out the exact same as last year and unfortunately has the same limited quantities available.

Today’s Daily Getaway gives four purchasing options:

  • 40,000 Choice Privileges points for $160 (204 available); cost = .4 cents per point
  • 36,000 Choice Privileges points for $155 (308 available); cost = .43 cents per point
  • 32,000 Choice Privileges points for $132 (310 available); cost = .41 cents per point
  • 20,000 Choice Privileges points for $90 (208 available); cost = .45 cents per point

So with this Daily Getaway option you can purchase Choice Privilege points at a pretty good discount. You are allowed to purchase 2 sets of each offer per account, so in theory you can purchase 256,000 points per account (since there are a total of 4 different offers, you can purchase a total of 8). However, while quantities are better then some other deals, it is still limited (and not nearly as many quantities available as last year). There are two reasons to purchase these points:

  1. Redeem for Choice Hotels at a discount
  2. Transfer your points to a partnering airline

For #1, do the math to see if purchasing the required points to redeem for a particular hotel is less then paying the lowest rate directly at the hotel.

For #2, most people jumped on this opportunity in the past to purchase points and then transfer them to Southwest. This is NO longer a good option. Recently, Southwest stopping allowing transferred hotel points to count towards the Southwest companion pass. If you are looking to transfer them to another airline program, it has limited value. The transfer rate is 5,000 points = 1,000 miles. This means that you are buying airline miles at 1.86 cents a piece. While this is a better value then purchasing the miles directly, I would not suggest doing this unless you see a mathematical value in an upcoming trip you are planning.

This deal will go on sale at 1pm EST TODAY Friday April 28, 2017. I do not believe these packages will sell out as quickly as they have in the past, but you never know.
