The Iceland based low-cost carrier, WOW Air, is expanding their service and will start flying out of JFK! While the airline already services nearby Newark airport, this is still a great enhancement to those in Long Island or other parts of New York. WOW Air is a great inexpensive way to get to Iceland or other cities throughout Europe with a connection in Iceland. Other cities they fly to/from within the US include: Chicago, Boston, Baltimore, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis, and Cincinnati.
Service will begin on April 26, 2018 and is currently offering tickets as low as $99! Additionally, WOW Air is expanding their Newark service where they will have 13 flights per week starting May 2018.
I personally flew WOW Air from Boston to Reykjavik, Iceland two years ago pretty soon after they launched in the US and just flew to Boston and Baltimore. I personally had a great experience and would absolutely fly them again. While they do charge extra for checked bags, carry on luggage, and seat assignment, if you pack light and do not care where you sit for the short flight you could get away without paying anything extra. Even if you do need to pay some extra, the cheap fare usually (although not aways!) makes up for it! You can read my review here.
