Few Points Shy of JetBlue Mosaic Status? You Can Buy the Rest!

JetBlue is offering a unique opportunity where you can purchase the rest of the points you need to qualify for JetBlue Mosaic status, which will then give you status through December 31, 2018. This opportunity is good for those who just missed earning status as well as those who are looking to just buy status outright. This promotion is running through December 31, 2017. Purchasing the points towards status is pricey, so I only think it is only worth it if you are slightly shy of reaching status, but the value depends on how often you’ll use the benefits. My favorite Mosaic status benefit is the option to change or cancel your fight with no fee. Or, if a flight goes down in price, you can get a credit for the difference or the point difference back into your account.

You can purchase between 250 and 15,000 points to earn status, although it can definitely get quite pricey! If you are looking to purchase 15,000 points (which is the full number of points required for Mosaic status), for example, this will cost you a whopping $5,550! At that price, I personally do not think any status is worth it, but I guess it really depends on how you value the status and how often you’ll utilize the benefits. I personally wouldn’t spend more then $500, which means 2,000 points shy.

You can check the number of points needed to earn status in your JetBlue account (or going to this link after signing in). To earn JetBlue Mosaic status you need 30 segments + 12,000 points or just 15,000 flight points.

As I mentioned above, I think it is only worth it if you are slightly shy of reaching status, but the value depends on how often you’ll use the benefits. Will you be purchasing status?

I realize this article is over a year old, but for anyone reading it….

The fraction was backwards here. It’s cost/total points to find the price per point. I think the author did it the other way around.
It comes out to less than 3 cents per point.
I just bought 15,000 points (plus some bonus points) for a total cost of just under $444. That’s no where near $5500!
$444/15,000 points is $.0296 (under 3 cents) per 1 point.
