Earlier this week I wrote about another new way to earn Marriott Platinum Premier Lifetime status. Originally this status was only going to be granted to those who have earned Marriott Platinum status for life, but they also added a way for Starwood loyalist to be upgraded to this status – those with 750 nights at Starwood properties and 10 years of Platinum status will also receive the status. This was a great addition for Starwood folks as they were initially left out. Marriott has stated that after 2018 there will be no way to earn Marriott Platinum Premier Lifetime status – you must earn the required nights/stays/points by December 31, 2018. So if you are able to earn it now, you’ll want to do so as this will be your only opportunity. In 2019, the highest lifetime status opportunity will be Marriott Platinum. Since I practically lived in Marriott hotels for many years while working my consulting job (I have had my own hotel room for 8 months straight), I have been actively working on earning lifetime status. I am only 11 nights away from Marriott Platinum status for life!
Now I am actively working on getting those 11 nights under my belt quickly, a new method just surfaced that might actually give me the status right off the bat and might not even require me to get those 11 nights by the end of the year. According to Pizza in Motion, if you have earned the following by the end of 2018, you’ll also earn Marriott Platinum Premier Lifetime status:
- 10 years of Platinum status combined between Starwood and Marriott
- 750 nights combined between Starwood and Marriott
This is HUGE. For those that have been loyal to both property chains but haven’t been able to accomplish lifetime status in just one chain, this could help you out big time! Keep in mind though that his information was received from a Marriott Insider and there has been no formal announcement yet from Marriott directly. So fingers crossed this information is in fact true!
Checking your numbers…
On the Marriott website, you can only check the number of nights you have towards lifetime status. Click on the “details” link under your Gold/Platinum status number in your Account Overview page. They used to list out your lifetime points, but it seems as though they took away that number within the past few weeks. The number of years you’ve had at the Platinum level is not listed. You’ll have to call Marriott Rewards to inquire or send them a message via Twitter.
On the Starwood side, you’ll need to sign into your SPG Dashboard. It will give you your lifetime numbers including nights and years of elite status. The only thing though is it will give you the numbers for the status you currently hold. So if you are currently Gold status (like me), it will not give you your years of elite status you’ve had at the Platinum status. I personally sent SPG a message via Twitter to see if they could give me the information. They responded within 30 minutes! This new way to earn lifetime status at the Platinum Premier level is extremely beneficial for me! With the combined numbers I will now be able to earn this lifetime status the easy way. While I was going to be able to make it with just my Marriott numbers, I was still 11 nights away from the required 750 nights, so I was going to have to put in some effort to get those 11 nights. This was I will not have to. I clearly have more then 11 nights at Starwood and believe I have more then 10 years of Platinum status when combining my Starwood and Marriott info, just waiting to get all the information!
Fingers crossed this info is accurate. Will this method help you earn status?
