My Sons Bittersweet Birthday!

Today is a big deal in the Deals household. No we are not flying across the world for free or saving a billion dollars by using some money saving app. It is my son’s birthday! At 12:00am my son turned 2! In between opening the presents, celebrating on the playground with friends, and baking cupcakes, I was discreetly sulking in the corner because he can no longer fly for free!

My son has been on a good amount of flights in his short life and I’ve only paid for two flights. And one of those flights was a family mileage run! Every other flight my son has been a lap child and has flown for free. We are in for a rude awakening now that we will have to pay for 4 flights for family vacations instead of 3. That is a huge extra chunk of change or miles to use to go anywhere.

While I wish my son would stay 1 forever just so he can continue to fly for free, I am excited to watch him grow and fully enjoy traveling. He loves airplanes and is a very easy flier, but he definitely has no idea that he has seen the Eiffel Tower, visited the #1 voted beach in Siesta Key, or received an amazing upgrade at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun!

So yes, traveling is about to get much more expensive, but that will not stop us from seeing the world. It just means I need to accrue more points and miles.

Happy Birthday to my Little E Man and knowing that you will always get your own seat from here on forward!

  1. Happy Birthday to your little guy! I work at a parenting program and see little ones running around all the time. My boys are now grown adults, but I love seeing the babies grow into young little minds of their own! You, your family and all of us subscribers are benefiting from all the hard work you do to keep us posted on the deals! My family and I appreciate it very much!!!!

  2. Happy birthday little E!
You’re grandma can’t stop telling her friends how delicious he is (and so is his sister).
I personally get to live vicariously as my kids don’t have kids yet).
Enjoy traveling with your family Jen. I wish I’d done more when they were little.
