Hilton recently updated their status match opportunity to allow you to get your matched status through March 2020! They’ve been offering a publicly available status match opportunity for quite some time and I am glad to see that they are extending it! While it is unfortunately not nearly as good as when it was offered back in 2016 when they were pretty much handing out status, this can still be valuable for many travelers. With this status match, Hilton will give you an instant match for 90 days, but to maintain the status you’ll have to complete 4 (Gold) or 8 (Diamond) stays.
The match will be based on what level of status you currently have at another program. The site does not state the corresponding status levels, but based on previous years experience, it seems like this is the match:
- Hilton Gold = SPG Gold, Marriott Gold, Ritz-Carlton Gold, Hyatt Explorist, IHG Platinum Elite, Club Carlson Gold
- Hilton Diamond = SPG Platinum, Marriott Platinum, Ritz-Carlton Platinum, Hyatt Globalist, IHG Spire Elite, Club Carlson Concierge
You’ll also need to show proof that you completed at least one stay at the matched hotel chain within the past 12 months.
If you have a Hilton stay coming up and currently do not have status, I suggest waiting until 2 weeks prior to your stay to request the status match. This will then allow you to have the matched status instantly for that stay, even if you do not have any Hilton stays coming up to maintain the status. IF, you are able to complete the required 4 or 8 stays, that status will be valid through March 31, 2020, which is awesome! You can request your status match here.

Any idea how Wyndham or Total rewards matches??
So riddle me this if you know — I just got Hilton’s status match (is IHG status) for the past 90 days beginning March 13, 2018 and ending (ironically enought) today June 13, 2018. It was my understanding that that gave me status thru March 2019. Then I see that the offer is now “upped” to grant status thru March 2020!!! I feel cheated (not really) — but any idea of how to approach HHonors for the extra year in this case?
@Lance – I would definitely request a new status match, but I am not sure if it will work. Let me know if they make any exceptions for you.
My SPG Plat status challenge upgraded me to Hilton Diamond with a day or so. So far, two Hilton stays -not impressed.
I submitted my status match request, I used my Platinum elite IHG, they did show a Choice hotels option but I figured IHG would have more weight. I sent screen grab of status showing 46 night this year, so maybe they will give me Diamond instead of gold.
It says it takes up to 5 days, do you know if you have to get the 4 or 8 stays after they grant status match, or only after the date you submit request?
Are the additional requirements to keep status, stays or nights? I should go back and read their site from link, some seemed ambiguous when I read it.

@Jay – Regarding the 4/8 stays, I am not sure if it is after they grant the match or when you submit. Their terms are (and have always been) very unclear unfortunately. However, I assume that you can email them to request for a stay close to the request to be included.
No additional requirements to keep status other then the 4/8 stays.

Turns out I cancelled that stay, but I just booked for tonight and just coincidentally received my status match e-mail.
They gave me Diamond for matching my IHG Platinum (Not Spire)
I think my 46 nights and half million ++ points on my screen grab must have tipped them upwards.
But the e-mail says even after making 8 stays, (I assume VS nights)
That I will only keep status until March 2019.
That’s not really a win for me, but I will at least score some free breakfasts until my 90 days period runs out.
Maybe it was a error, but so far that is what it says.
Looking around their site, I spotted a link saying they will extend status for a year for any reason, I have not followed that link yet, but maybe it’s a two step thing to get to that March 2020, even though not mentioned in the status match request page???
It came in handy yesterday as I got free breakfast 🙂
