Just yesterday I wrote about a new promotion with Hyatt where you can purchase Hyatt points with bonus a “mystery” offer. It seems like most folks were offered a 30% or 40% bonus. There doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason why some were given one offer over the other, but fortunately I received the higher 40% offer. Although I actually won’t even be taking Hyatt up on the offer as I do not have a need to purchase points right now. Assuming you were targeted for the 40% bonus, you could ultimately purchase 55,000 points, get 22,000 bonus points, for a total of 77,000 Hyatt points at $1,320.
But you can do better!
Earlier this month Hyatt also announced another favorite promotion. If you have the Hyatt credit card you’ll receive a 10% rebate on all points redeemed during for stays during the months of August and September. Let’s say you went all in, purchased the 77,000 total points (assuming you had the 40% bonus offer) and redeemed them all during the next two months, that would result in a 7,700 point rebate. Ultimately meaning your initial purchase of 55,000 points was giving you not just a 22,000 bonus, but a 29,7000 bonus for a total of 84,700 points. Thus giving you a 54% bonus on your points purchased!
Assuming you are maxing out on both promotions, this means you are buying Hyatt points at 1.56 cents per point. I always redeem my Hyatt points for at least 2 cents per point (although some have a higher or lower value), so this could end up being a great opportunity to stay at a Hyatt property for less.
As always with purchasing points, do the math and make sure you have a redemption in mind. Run the numbers and make sure you are actually coming ahead vs. paying the lowest rate you find. Here is also 5 things you should know about the 10% rebate promotion.
If you are not currently a Hyatt credit card holder, you can still take advantage of the 10% rebate promotion! New applicants who are able to register by the August 31st date will qualify as well!
