All good things must come to an end at some point, right? For awhile now, if you used your Chase Ink Business Preferred credit card to pay a bill through the bill payment site Plastiq you’d earn 3x points on your payment. The reason why this was awesome is because it actually allowed you to MAKE MONEY or earn points at a ridiculously low rate. While there is a 2.5% fee when using Plastiq, earning 3x points (which is worth a minimum of 3%) means you are coming out ahead! I’ve written about this money making and earning free points and miles option on the blog many times in the past, such as here and here.

Unfortunately though, it seems like as of August 16th, Chase has stopped coding these purchases with earning 3x points and you’ll only earn the regular 1x point on your purchase. HT: Miles to MemoriesIn just the past few months I’ve earned an extra 19,537 points by this awesome 3x point coding “error”. I am definitely sad to see it go, but I am glad it was around for as long as it was!

You Can Still Earn Free Points!

Back in May, Plastiq announced a promotion in partnership with Masterpass where you could sent payments for free. While the promotion terms changed a few days later, you can still send up to $250 fee-free when you use a Mastercard to pay your bill. Some popular Mastercards include: JetBlue, Citi American Airlines, Citi Double Cash, and IHG. I personally have been using my JetBlue credit card to pay some bills and have been racking up a decent amount of JetBlue points. And remember, you can use a Mastercard to pay your rent or mortgage through Plastiq! You can learn more about this promotion here.

New to Plastiq?

If you are new to Plastiq there is a referral program where you can earn FFDs (Fee Free Dollars) towards your payments. After your first payment(s) totaling $500 or more, you’ll earn $500 in FFDs. That means on your next $500 in payments you will not pay a fee at all! This is regardless of the credit card you use to pay. You must sign up for Plastiq through a referral and then you can go ahead and use your referral link to get friends/family members to sign up.

Thanks for the GREAT suggestion of using MasterPass. I am so focused on Ultimate Rewards sometimes that I miss the forest for the trees with other programs. Bummer this current MasterPass promo ends so soon, but I’m grateful for a few extra JetBlue miles always.
