Utilizing Wyndham’s Status Match for Your Family

As I wrote about last week. Wyndham is now giving everyone the opportunity to easily earn status with their hotel chain with a status match opportunity! While Wyndham properties do not come with free breakfast or lounge access, their top tier members can receive complimentary Suite Upgrades upon check-in which can be huge for a family. Of course there is no guarantee to the suite ahead of time, but if there is one available during check-in it is yours, or at least it should be yours!
To receive Wyndham Diamond status, their top tier status, you can show proof with one of the following hotel programs:
  • Marriott Gold, Platinum, Platinum Premier, or Platinum Premier Ambassador
  • Hilton Gold or Diamond
  • Choice Privileges Diamond
  • Best Western Diamond
  • Hyatt Globalist
  • IHG Platinum Elite or Spire Elite
  • Radisson Gold or Platinum
From the list above, you’ll see that having a mid-tier status at another hotel chain will actually land you this top tier Diamond status with Wyndham. Many times it is easy to earn that mid-tier status just by having the hotels co-branded credit card! For example, the two IHG credit cards gives you automatic IHG Platinum Elite status. Many of the Hilton co-branded credit cards also give Hilton Honors Gold status. Receiving one of the hotel statuses that will allow you to match to Wyndham Diamond status should be pretty easy. Now, if you have a lower status level with another hotel, you can still get matched to Wyndham Platinum status, or just by submitting that you are enrolled in another loyalty program (with no status at all) that will still give you Gold status. Ultimately, this is an opportunity for everyone to receive Gold status at a minimum! You can learn more about which hotels status match to the respective Wyndham status levels here.
With this promotion, you’ll receive your matched status for 90 days. Within those 90 days if you stay on an eligible rate for 14 nights you’ll then keep your Diamond status for the entire following year. If you matched to Platinum you’ll have to complete 7 nights to keep the status and if you matched to Gold status you’ll automatically keep that status for the entire following year with no stays required. If you earn your matched status in 2018, you’ll receive the status through December 31, 2019, but if you earn the matched status not until 2019, you’ll have the respective status until December 31, 2020! So make sure to be strategic when completing your 7/14 nights! Or, if you are just in it for the 90 day period, make sure to request your status during a time period when you have an upcoming Wyndham stay.
While the best benefit is the Suite Upgrades for Diamond members (even on award stays!), you’ll also receive early check-in and late checkout. Getting to check into your hotel early or check out late while staying with kids can be extremely helpful. Gold members will also receive late checkout while Platinum members will receive late checkout and early check-in. You can learn more about the status benefits here.

  1. Anyone have an idea how long this status upgrade offer will be offered ? I have stays planned for Feb 9 and 10. I will not be able to complete the challenge for the extended status. The 90 day limit would mean that I would have to wait until Nov 11th or 12th to submit my request. I have Hilton Gold so I would get Wyndham Diamond. Thanks

    • I’ve matched with Wyndham using Hyatt hotel status in 2017.. let it expire.. the just matched it again to Wyndham Diamond with Harrah’s Total Rewards status.. so one DP on being able to do it again.
