Choice Hotels is running a promotion where if you purchase their points you’ll receive a 25% discount. While this isn’t nearly as good as their 40% discount a few months ago, this is part of their “Members Only Madness” which looks like they’ll be offering various promotions over the next 5 days. This particular purchasing points promotion is valid through November 26, 2018.

As I wrote about earlier a month or so ago, purchasing Choice Points actually saved my family money! My parents took a road trip down the California trip in October and stayed at two different Choice Hotels — one in Carmel and one in Morro Bay. Both properties where in great locations and the perfect place for a one night stay. Neither were especially fancy, but they were clean and offered free breakfast. Since it was off-season those hotels cost only 10,000 and 8,000 points respectively a night. If paying the lowest possible rate, these hotels cost around $150/night each. So instead of paying $300, I was able to purchase points at a significant discount. So definitely do the math and see if purchasing points during this promotion will in fact by cheaper than paying the best rate at the hotel.

  1. I was curious about the cost per point since it’s not stated, so I looked it up (the login to that site is kind of annoying, so hope it helps others). 50k for $412.50 or .825 cents per point.

I love choice hotel deals, this is one that should only be used with a particular property in mind and not speculatively. And yes there are a lot of decent 8-10k/not properties are out there, but not always when and where you want them.
