This is a quick reminder that tomorrow is the last day to redeem your Iberia points from the incredibly generous promotion they had this past summer. Come December 1st, if the points are not redeemed, they will be pulled from your account and that is definitely not what you want! NOTE: Iberia runs on Central European Time, so you’ll have to redeem by 6pm EST, DO NOT wait until end of day!
Redeeming My 90,000 Points
I personally earned 90,000 points from the promotion with an out of pocket cost of $240. A great “purchase” in my mind, although I still have yet to redeem a single point! I just wasn’t able to find anything that worked with my families schedule and with flights that were already booked. Not to mention, searching for award flights on Iberia is the biggest pain in the you know what — it has to be one of the worst search engines and getting a partner award to pull up just wasn’t working. I also didn’t have it in me to book a flight over the phone.
Since I am not booking anything within the next day, I ended up transferring my points into my British Airways account. It definitely was not the easiest process as I couldn’t get my Iberia account to sync up to my British Airways account and vice versa, so I ended up transferring my Iberia Avios over to a newly created general Avios account and then transferred the points in the general Avios account into my British Airways Avios. Because of the roundabout method I had to take to transfer my points (and I assume many others will have to go through as well), I do not suggest waiting until the 23rd hour to transfer your points over.
A Negative Iberia Account?
Since I am transferring my points out and not actually redeeming them on a flight, there is a good chance that my Iberia account goes into the negative. Since I had a 0 point balance beforehand anyways, I do not really care, but it might mean I can never transfer points back into the account again. I’ll definitely have to see what happens December 1st with that one. But if you previously had a balance in your Iberia account, you might want to transfer all your points out as you do not want to lose the points you already had. I really am not sure how it will play out, but I’d definitely hate for you to lose any points. Your best bet would be to transfer them out and then wait and see what happens if you transfer just a point back over.
