American Airlines and Hyatt just teamed up and are providing some pretty awesome benefits for those who have status in either program. I love when airlines and hotels partner up as it can really provide some extra perks for literally no extra work. While this could also motivate some to switch airlines or hotels, weigh out the benefits to see what makes the most sense for you. I personally have status with both programs so this is a huge win for me! Right now the timing is still TBD and I was told that everything will be put in place “later this year”, although more details will be announced later this month.

Earning Bonus Miles and Points

Earn American Airline Miles on Hyatt Stays

If you have AAdvantage Gold, Platinum, Platinum Pro, Executive Platinum or ConciergeKey status you will earn one AAdvantage mile for every eligible dollar spent at qualifying Hyatt properties. For example, let’s say you have a $300 stay coming up, that will earn you 300 AAdvantage miles.

Earn Hyatt Points on American Airline Flights

If you have Hyatt Discoverist, Explorist or Globalist status you will earn one World of Hyatt bonus points for every eligible dollar spent on qualifying American Flights. For example, a $300 flight on American will award you an extra 300 World of Hyatt bonus points. Fortunately, earning Hyatt Discoverist status is very easy as you receive it automatically just by having the World of Hyatt Credit Card. If you fly American often, you might want to get the credit card simply for the status and the opportunity to earn free Hyatt points!

Earning Status

American Airlines Concierge Key Members

As of right now, the big win is for those who have American Airlines ConciergeKey status. Hyatt will be automatically matching those members to Hyatt Globalist status—Hyatt’s top tier status level. Unfortunately though, when you are “gifted” Globalist status you will not receive some of the benefits such as 4 Suite Night Upgrades and a free night certificate. Those benefits are only eligible for those who actually qualify with meeting the required nights. With that being said, you’ll still receive complimentary breakfast, lounge access, waived resort fees on paid nights, complimentary parking when using points, and eligibility to a standard suite based on availability at check-in. Globalist status is by far my favorite status in the hotel world, so this is a big gift!

Status Challenge

It was also communicated that there will be a elite status challenge although the details have not yet been announced. This means if you have American Airlines status, there will be some sort of challenge to earn Hyatt status. And if you have Hyatt status, there will be some sort of challenge to earn American Airlines status.

I am personally very excited to learn more about the status challenge opportunities! Since I have lifetime Gold status on American Airlines and just lost my Hyatt Globalist status, I am eager to earn that top tier status back at Hyatt!

Overall…

Partnerships like this are always a good thing. Of course it will benefit some more than others, but there is literally no downside. I am excited to hear more details later this month as this can absolutely open up some doors for my family!
