First off thanks Dad for filling in last week. Based on the comments we may have to have you do that more often…. Readers, what do you think?

So this week was a busy one at work. We had our sales conference which meant a lot of travel for various folks in the office. Unfortunately I didn’t have to go anywhere as we held it in NYC. A lot of the people that came out were from LA and just about all of them had a story about their horrible flight on Virgin. Screaming kids, screaming adults, weather, you know the usual. But then I spoke to this one guy. He had a very different experience.

“I love airports and the experience of flying!” Those were his exact words as he had just finished telling a group of us how he had 2 layovers on Southwest to get to NYC. He was set to do the same on the way home and was very excited and happy to do so. Now this guy will only fly Southwest because of the miles which he has about 200k worth. He makes all of his flight arrangements over the phone because it saves him money (is that true?). Oh and he loves getting the front row middle seat!?

As all of these things started coming out everyone looked my way waiting for me to lay into him. If it wasn’t 2 in the morning I would’ve called the Mrs. for an immediate intervention.  I mean he didn’t even have a Southwest credit card! I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that he loved airports and the middle seat. I was just so confused.

We all decided that at some point we will chip in to get him a direct flight and an upgrade to first or business so he can actually experience some decent flying. Maybe we will even get him club access. The first thing he’s getting is a Southwest credit card!

I sometimes will never understand people!

Somewhere in a middle seat is a man raving about a lunatic that insisted on earning points with a credit card while spending hours conjuring ways to fly first class.

To each his own!

If he is happy, let him be. One less person trying to get my aisle seat.

Everything’s amazing and nobody’s happy.

Have to clarify (since we are talking about Southwest) when you say “a direct flight” do you mean a non-stop? Though all non-stops are direct, not all direct flights are non-stop.
