Typically I write about credit cards that will earn you points and miles for free travel, however, recently I’ve received many questions on the best credit card that comes with a 0% APR. While I always suggest paying your credit card balance in full every month and not getting yourself in credit card debt, sometimes things happen and being able to pay off your credit card balance over a few months with no extra fees is needed. Just keep in mind though for most of these cards, once the 0% APR is over, the interest rates are incredibly high so make sure to pay off the debt prior to the promotional period ends. I’ve put together a list of the top 10 credit cards that come with these three parameters: 1) 0% APR for at least 12 months; 2) A sign up bonus; 3) No annual fee.

8 Credit Cards with 0% APR

Wells Fargo Propel American Express® Card

  • Welcome bonus: Earn 30,000 bonus points when you spend $3,000 in purchases in the first 3 months – worth $300 in cash redemption
  • APR terms: 0% APR for the first 12 months
  • Points earned: Earn 3X points for eating out and ordering in; 3X points for gas stations, rideshares and transit; 3X points for travel including flights, hotels, homestays and car rentals; 1X point on all other purchases
  • Other benefits: Cell phone protection

This is by far the best option for a 0% APR credit card with no annual fee. It has the highest welcome offer and offers a nice return for travel, dining, and gas. This card also offers a generous cell phone protection benefit where you can submit up to two claims a year and be reimbursed up to $600 per incident (minus a $25 deductible). If you are looking to make a large purchase, just make sure the merchant takes American Express credit cards.

Wells Fargo Cash Wise Visa® Card

  • Welcome bonus: Earn a $200 cash rewards bonus after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months
  • APR terms: 0% APR for the first 12 months
  • Points earned: Earn 1.5% cash back on all purchases. You’ll also receive an increased 1.8% cash back on all mobile wallet purchases for the first 12 months of account opening, such as Apple Pay or Google Pay
  • Other benefits: Cell phone protection

If you need a non-American Express card, this might be a better option then the Wells Fargo Propel card, although a slightly less welcome bonus. I’d also recommend this card over the two Bank of America cards due to the cell phone protection benefit. With this benefit, you’ll receive up to $600 in reimbursement on your cell phone if your phone is damaged or stolen. You are allowed to file 2 claims per year. You just need to make sure to pay your monthly bill with this card (The Wells Fargo Propel card comes with the same protection).

Capital One® VentureOne® Rewards Credit Card

  • Welcome bonus: Earn 20,000 Miles once you spend $1,000 on purchases within 3 months from account opening – worth $200 towards travel
  • APR terms: 0% APR for the first 12 months
  • Points earned: Earn 1.25X miles on every purchase
  • Other benefits: Earn 10X miles when you book a hotel through hotels.com

This is also a travel credit card where the points earned need to be applied towards a travel purchase to receive a statement credit. If you want straight cash back right into your pocket this is not the best card for you. While you’ll earn slightly less points on everyday purchases than some of the other cards above, if you make hotel reservations through hotels.com often, this is by far the best card in the industry to maximize the miles earned.

Chase Freedom Unlimited

  • Welcome bonus: $200 cash back after you spend $500 within the first three months
  • APR terms: 0% APR for the first 15 months
  • Points earned: Earn 5% on travel purchased through Chase, Earn 3% on dining at restaurants and drugstores, Earn 1.5% cash back on all purchases;

While the welcome offer is less then the other card above, the points earned could potentially be significantly better if you have a premium Chase Ultimate Reward card (one that comes with an annual fee). Instead of redeeming your points for cash back, you can transfer them to a premium card where you can redeem your points for a significantly higher value. Also, if you need a longer APR timeframe, this card comes with 15 months 0% APR.

Capital One® Quicksilver® Card

  • Welcome bonus: Earn a $150 cash bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening
  • APR terms: 0% APR for the first 15 months
  • Points earned: Earn 1.5% cash back on all purchases

The bonus, APR terms, points earned, and benefits are very similar to the Chase Freedom Unlimited card, so the card to apply for is really based on preference. I personally prefer earning Chase Ultimate Reward points, but that is because I have a premium card where I can transfer my point to that account and then again transfer the points to a partner loyalty program which allows me to get a much higher value out of the points earned.

Capital One® SavorOne℠ Cash Rewards Credit Card

  • Welcome bonus: Earn a $150 cash bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening
  • APR terms: 0% APR for the first 15 months
  • Points earned: Earn unlimited 3% cash back on dining and entertainment, 2% at grocery stores and 1% on all other purchases

If you spend a decent amount on food and entertainment, this card will most likely earn you more cash back then the Capital One Quicksilver card. I suggest looking at your average monthly expenses and see where you’d earn more points – 1.5% cash back on all purchases, or a tiered cash back system where you’ll receive higher cash back on dining, entertainment, and groceries, and then just 1% cash back on all other purchases.

Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express

  • Welcome bonus: $150 statement credit after you spend $1,000 in purchases on your new Card within the first 3 months
  • APR terms: 0% APR for the first 15 months
  • Points earned: Earn 3% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $6,000 per year in purchases, then 1%), 2% cash back at U.S. gas stations and at select U.S. department stores, and 1% back on other purchases.
  • Other benefits: Since this is an American Express credit card you are eligible to take advantage of Amex Offers where you can receive statement credits at many popular merchants!

If you prefer an American Express card, then this card is for you! However, there are other cards listed above that will earn you the same bonus points at supermarkets and gas stations, but with a higher welcome bonus and higher caps. The one real benefit of this card is that you can take advantage of Amex Offers which could definitely save you some money on a yearly basis at some popular merchants.

Overall..

Having a 0% APR card for the first 12-15 months for some large purchases can definitely save you a ton of money on interest. Of course there are a few other cards that come with longer 0% APR terms, but they do not have a welcome offer tied to it. If you are looking for a card with an 18 to 21 month 0% APR offer, here is a list of all of the 0% APR credit cards.
