Get $30 Back on Amtrak with Amex Sync

Back in November I posted about an American Express Sync opportunity where if you spend $150+ at Amtrak you’ll receive a $30 statement credit. This promotion is coming to an end February 15, but there are ways to still take advantage post this date.

It does not matter when your train actually departs, you just need to make the reservation and have the charge hit your credit card by this date. If you know of upcoming travel, you can book it now.

Or, if you are not sure when you will be traveling but want to take advantage of the $30 statement credit you can purchase a $150 ticket now, cancel the reservation and have the agent refund you the amount in an eVoucher. You will then have exactly one year to use the eVoucher on Amtrak travel. Luckily, eVouchers can now be booked on and they are fully transferable.

To register for the promotion:

  1. Going to your American Express account and registering for this promotion via the “Offers for You” tab, or
  2. Syncing your American Express credit card to Twitter and tweeting  #AmexAmtrak;  you can sync your American Express card with Twitter here

The Amtrak promotion showed up in both my accounts, and if you are familiar with the syncing promos, once you register in one account it will disappear in the other. You can read this post to read more about a workaround to this.
