Hyatt just announced a pretty awesome promotion for members staying at one of their all-inclusive properties. There is one big caveat though: You must have a Hyatt Credit Card (no longer available to new applicants) or the World of Hyatt Credit Card. With this promotion, if you spend $500 at a Hyatt Ziva or Hyatt Zilara property between Nov. 1, 2019 and March 30, 2020, you’ll receive a $250 statement credit. That is a 50% off discount, which is quite amazing! On top of that, this promotion is for the entire winter which is popular season for these hotels. (You must register for this promotion by Nov. 30, 2019).

Hyatt all-inclusive properties include: Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana and Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana (Dominican), Hyatt Ziva Cancun and Hyatt Zilara Cancun (Mexico), Hyatt Ziva Montego Bay and Hyatt Zilara Montego Bay (Jamaica), Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos (Mexico), Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta. The Hyatt Ziva properties are family-friendly, while the Hyatt Zilara properties are adults only.

Ways to Utilize the $250 Statement Credit

Typically, the Hyatt Ziva and Zilara properties cost between 20,000 and 25,000 points a night for double occupancy. Many of these properties, however, cost about $500 a night depending on the season. Instead of paying the 20-25k points a night, you are much better off paying $250 for one of the nights (after the statement credit) and then using your points for the remaining nights.

Another alternative is to use the credit towards an extra person charge. At all of their all-inclusive properties, children 2 and under are free, but older than that you are looking at an extra 10,000-12,500 points per night per guest. Instead of paying the additional points, you can typically pay cash for those extra guests. For example, the Hyatt Ziva Cancun typically charges $110 a night per extra guest per night. Let’s say you have a 5 night stay and you are on the hook to pay for an extra guest, this will cost you an extra $550. Use your Hyatt credit card to pay the extra fee and that should trigger the $250 statement credit. You are then only paying an extra $55 a night for that guest instead of 10-12.5k extra points.

If you do not have an upcoming stay, but another friend or family member does, give them authority to use your credit card. Maybe you can even split the statement credit. A win-win all around!

How I am Using the Statement Credit

This statement credit couldn’t have come at a better time for my family. We actually have a vacation currently booked at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun. This will actually be our third time at the property since we love it so much. I already have peak dates booked with points, but will be on the hook to pay the extra guest surcharge for both my kids. This means we will be charged an extra $220 for our two kids per night. Over the course of our 6 night stay that is an extra $1,320. This by no means makes our “free vacation on points” free, but to spend an extra 150,000 World of Hyatt points is absolutely not worth it either. Since both my husband and I have the World of Hyatt Credit Card, we will split our extra charge in half which will trigger the statement credit on both of our accounts. This promotion just gave us an easy $500 back, making our extra charges just $820. For all the included food, drinks and kids clubs, the extra surcharge is well worth it in our opinion.

For those looking to stay at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun with kids, here is a video I put together on the kids club.

Overall…

I am very excited about this promotion. It is also a great reminder that there are many promotions that come out during the year that help offset the annual fees of your card. This $250 statement credit is absolutely worth the less than $100 annual fee we are paying for the card. Not to mention all of the other benefits we receive as well.

Will your travel plans allow you to use this statement credit?

Would you expect the credit to work if you spent $500 on Spa services at the properties? We have a stay booked in Puerto Vallarta with points. Would still like to take advantage of this promotion.

it should count. T&C doesn’t say only room rates are covered. Just make sure to spend $500 at the resort regardless of what the charge is for and make sure to pay all at the front desk. meaning put everything on the room just to be sure at pay at the checkout.

How does one register for this promotion? Can you provide a link? Or specify how to do this from, say, the World of Hyatt website?

Have you used this promo yet?? I stayed at the Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana over Thanksgiving and still have not been able to get the credit. They denied me saying it was not a participating property. Now I need to escalate the issue.
