My daughter was an only child until she was 3 years old and while she probably doesn’t even remember life prior to her brother being born, I still make sure to have some quality mommy-daughter time to make her feel special. Last month Adam had a work trip to Los Angeles and I figured this was the perfect opportunity for me and my daughter to tag along. While I felt bad leaving my son behind, this wasn’t an ideal trip for an almost 2 year old. It is a long flight from Boston to LA, naps wouldn’t be ideal, and standing in long lines patiently at Disney World just doesn’t happen at this age. Adam also wasn’t flying home with us and I really did not want to fly by myself with an almost 5 and 2 year old. I also knew he’d be in great hands with grandma and grandpa and spoiled rotten with a ton of ice cream. 
My daughter was definitely sad to leave her baby brother behind, but was also so excited for her special trip with mommy and daddy! She got to stay up late. She didn’t have to schedule the day around her brothers nap schedule. She could sit at a restaurant and enjoy it without having to hurry up and leave because her brother couldn’t sit still. And best of all, she got to watch whatever she wanted to watch on the hotel TV before bed! It was just like her first three years of life when she used to travel solo with mommy and daddy where life was all about her. And I must admit traveling with one is way easier then two! 
I also enjoyed some time just being able to focus on my daughter and fully cater our days around her interests. She’s turned into a great traveler and she really likes exploring new places. I love that we are able to build some memories around the trips we go on together thanks to points and miles. While she loved telling our friends and family about her trip to California, she of course made sure to not forget about her brother and had to bring him a souvenir from Disney. It was a nice reminder that while I love doing activities and seeing different parts of the world as a family, taking individual trips which each child can be special as well!

I love taking our oldest daughter on Disney vacations. It’s great one-on-one time. I will point out though, if you were in LA, you were at Disneyland not Disney World.
I’ve done it several times when my kids were 10 and over. It was special and I loved the one on one time!
